Team ECS traveled to Richland Hills, Texas to participate in the 2011 NAGA Southwest Grappling Championships. The action began when Ontorio Jackson competed in the No-Gi, Feather Weight division. Jackson got the initial take-down and maintained positional control throughout the four-minute match for the win. In his second match-up, Jackson got behind on points as the clock dwindled away.

Next up in the six-man Heavy Weight Division (200 lbs. to 224.9 lbs.), Henry Torres and Jason Hansen battled it out, teammate against teammate. Prior to that, Henry took his first match by outscoring his opponent with a beautiful sitting throw and positional dominance. Hansen went the distance and pulled off two wins, one by straight armbar and the other by points. The results of those matches put teammate against teammate and in a close battle, Hansen took the win.

Lightweight Luis Gonzalez (150-159.9 lbs) barely lost in what could arguably be called the best match up of the day for Team ECS. After several leg lock attempts with his opponent narrowly escaping, Gonzalez fell behind two points and the timer ran down.

Ferdinand DeVera (Welter Weight, 160-169.9 lbs) was matched with an equally strong competitor and held his own for most of his match. However, during a scramble, DeVera was caught in the guillotine for the loss.

Pat Goode rounded out the competition in the Middle Weight 170-179.9 lbs Gi Division with two great wins coming from points and a rear-naked choke. His only loss was to the ultimate winner of the division.

All-in-all, Team ECS came home with two bronze and two silver medals. The young team performed well and are looking forward to getting back into the gym and making improvements for the next battle.
